Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. What is included with your hourly rates?

Besides having the freedom to create any kind of music you want using all of our equipment, a dedicated engineer will be with you for the entire session to make sure all aspects of your recording are smooth. You will also receive media with all your audio tracks at no extra charge.

  1. Can I bring my own equipment?

Absolutely. In fact we recommend it. We do have a robust selection of musical gear at your disposal but nothing is better than recording with the same instrument your used to playing. For a full list of our equipment, visit our studio equipment page.

  1. How far can you take me with my recording?

We cover all aspects of producing your music. We can pre-plan an entire album, record all the tracks, mix your song, and finally master it for distribution. We DO NOT market your music or supply it to any distributing companies. We CAN duplicate copies for distribution, but we DO NOT handle any marketing aspects.

  1. How many hours will I have to book to make an entire album?

There is no limit on how long it can take to create an album. Bands and artists who prepare before the recording (meaning they know exactly who is playing what) will always spend less money in the studio. It is best to have an idea of what you want your music to sound like. Also, the more instruments and members in the group, the longer it will take to complete an album because there tend to be different opinions and more instruments to mix. Figure that it takes an hour or two to record each song, and another hour or two to mix it. However, mixing can take much longer if you want your songs to sound professional. For a top quality professional sound we recommend dedicating approx. 10 hrs total to each song for a full band, and 5 hours a song for vocalists with backing tracks.

  1. What software and control board to you use?

Check out our studio equipment page to find a detailed list of what equipment we use. VIP Sound Recording Studios offers a unique hybrid of analog warmth with pure digital clarity. Depending on the individual client, we record through a 24 track analog board to digital, or direct to ProTools 7.3. All of our mixing is done in ProTools, and we master in either ProTools or Adobe Audition 2.0, which ever you prefer.

  1. What should I expect when I walk into your studio?

We are a dedicated group of musicians ourselves who know everything that recording an album comes with. We have been working in the audio engineering field for years and have produced projects for broadway actresses, famous actors, and a variety of bands and artists. We have a comfortable control room for any guests, and our tracking room is the perfect place to come up with new ideas.

  1. What if I just want to come into your studio to rehearse for an album or video shoot?

We have had plenty of groups come in to rehearse. Check out our page on rehearsals to find out more information. We have great acoustics for rehearsals, and an engineer is present at all times to cater to you.

  1. Can you record or video tape a rehearsal?

Absolutely. There are additional fees for video taping and recording a rehearsal. Recording a rehearsal involves less than recording for an album, and there will be less mixing involved. However, our finished products always sound great.

  1. Can I bring some friends to watch us record?

Our control room can fit up to 4 of your friends comfortably. We try to not have extra people around because they tend to distract the band and the engineer. However, you can bring some friends or family along to watch.

  1. So I’ve come in and recorded with you, and we have a great master copy of our album. What next?

This is all up to you. If you just want a few copies to give to your friends, we can make duplicates. We can also duplicate your cd for mass distribution. We don’t market your product in any way, but our engineers and staff can lead you in the right direction if you’re looking to get coverage.

  1. Will you supply a producer for my recording session?

VIP Sound Studios has dedicated engineers that will help you along in your session, however, we do not offer free producing. We can provide a producer for an additional fee. This producer will sit through your entire session, tell you what needs to be changed, and will guide you to a better product. Our producers all work in house and are musicians who know how to get the sound you want.

12. Have you ever worked with anyone famous?

Yes. We have worked with very well known vocalists, musicians, actors, actresses, Oscar winners, Grammy winners, and Toni winners. We are known for being discreet, and do not choose to share our full client list in this forum.

13. How long have you been doing this?

VIP Sound Recording Studios has been a staple in the New Jersey, NYC music scene for over twenty years. We love music of all types, and love to record it even more. Our humble beginnings started in a small rented garage in central NJ recording local cover bands. With much persistence and hard work we have grown into the 2000 sq. foot professional recording studio we take so much pride in today.
